Cynthia (Cindi) Dabney, PhD, DNP, CRNA, APRN
Dr. Dabney began her nursing career after earning an Associate Degree in Nursing from Gulf Coast State College in 1991, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida State University in 1996. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Bay Medical Center until 1999, when she entered The Gooding Institute of Nurse Anesthesia, earning her Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia in 2001.
Dr. Dabney worked as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in Memphis, Tennessee, where she gained extensive experience across orthopedics, pediatrics, plastic surgery, obstetrics, general surgery, Level I trauma, and high-risk OB. In 2014, she earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), where she later joined the faculty in 2015. During her time at UTHSC, she served as Assistant Program Director and Director of Didactic Education, developing a passion for teaching pathophysiology and advancing nurse anesthesia simulation.
Dedicated to lifelong learning and academic growth, Dr. Dabney earned her PhD from UTHSC in 2023. Her research focuses on CRNA perspectives on the Anesthesia Care Team (ACT), independent practice, and simulation-based education. In 2022, she relocated to Tampa, Florida, and currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Nurse Anesthesiology Program at the University of South Florida, where she remains actively involved in clinical practice at Tampa General Hospital.
