As a CRNA for the last 20 years and a registered nurse for 10 years before that, I have often been concerned with the environmental consequences related to the sheer quantities of waste production of the medical industry.. This concern has lead me to my current pursuit of my PhD, started in 2022, researching ways in which healthcare professionals can mindfully reduce waste production of all kinds. The exhaustive literature review of these topics reveals that the goal is best achieved via awareness, mindfulness, and the commitment of leaders in our profession of nurse anesthesia.
